Vernice L Kraft

Vernice Kraft, 103, Seymour, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Meadow Wood Assisted Living in Seymour. She was born December 21, 1919, on a farm in rural Seymour, the daughter of the late Frank and Lena (Benson) Snell. On August 9, 1945, Vernice was united in marriage to Vilas Kraft, who was serving in the U.S. Navy, San Francisco, CA. Vilas preceded her in death on October 23, 2017.

Vernice graduated from Seymour High School, Stevens Point State Teachers College and Oshkosh Teachers College. She was an elementary school teacher in the Seymour area and at Black Creek School for 42 years. Vernice also assisted with Kraft Shoe Store, which Vilas opened shortly after World War II. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour.

Vernice and Vilas enjoyed spending time at their cottage on Lake Pensaukee, which they owned for 50 years. The couple enjoyed canoeing, planting flowers, feeding birds, and having cookouts with their family on the lake. Vernice also enjoyed reading, and was instrumental in keeping in touch with her sisters, nieces, and nephews. Her greatest passion was doting on her granddaughters.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth Kraft, Medford; two granddaughters: Breanne Kraft and Brenda Kraft, both of Wausau; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Judith (Smoczyk) Kraft; one brother and seven sisters; two brothers-in-law: Lloyd and Kenneth Kraft, and a sister-in-law, Gladys Reed.

Visitation will take place at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 349 N. Main Street, Seymour, on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m., Pastor Ty Stoneburner officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Unity Hospice.

The family extends a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Meadow Wood Assisted Living for all their compassionate care over the years. Also, a special thanks to Unity Hospice for their care.
