Obituary

Leon (Le) Lawrence Blumreich, of Charlottesville, VA, passed quietly on June 16, 2022 after a short battle with cancer. Le, as he was best known to family and friends, was born February 14, 1939 to the late John and Elizabeth (Meunier) Blumreich. He was also preceded in death by his sister, lone Gosse, and brother, Harlen Blumreich.
Le is survived by his children, Lou Ann Glick (Scott Butler) and Bing Blumreich (Elizabeth), of Appleton, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Jerry Grogan and David Glick of Appleton, WI, Alyssa Coerper (Tanner) of Little Chute, WI, and Christopher Grogan of Brillion, WI.; three great-grandchildren, Shylla Coerper, Gracie Grogan and Collin Grogan. He is also survived by a special nephew, Clifford Reis, and a special grand-niece, Laurie Reis, of Seymour, Wisconsin.
Also surviving is his life partner of 42 years, Jesse (Jay) Gammon, of Charlottesville. Jay was also his devoted caregiver during his illness. Two special friends, Mike Campbell and Tom Leslie who were very close during his illness.
Le was the bakery manager at UVA Dining Services for many years. After retiring, he worked for several years at Sponsors Hall. Probably, he was best known for his orchid growing expertise, as the owner of Pine Crest Orchids until his retirement in 2011. He and his partner, Jay, participated in many orchid shows and received several awards for their outstanding plants. The greenhouse was hard to give up, but age and health problems made it difficult to continue. Many cherished friends were made during those years and continue to this day. He was a member of the Charlottesville Orchid Society for many years. Gardening and plants were an important part of his life.
His favorite pastime was playing "Sheepshead" with his card playing buddies at The Center.
Le was a member of the Church of Incarnation.
Le and Jay were fortunate to have traveled quite a bit. Their favorite places were the big island of Hawaii and Costa Rica, but anywhere in the Caribbean was always a treat.
Visitation will take place at St. John Catholic Church, 915 Ivory Street, Seymour, on Thursday, July 7, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m., Father Sengole Dass officiating, Deacon Rich Matuszak assisting.
