Obituary

Charles "Charlie" J. Thies, age 72, of Oneida passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022.
He was born on June 26, 1950 to the late Russell and Viola (Maufort) Thies.

Charlie graduated from Pulaski High School in 1968. Following graduation he enlisted in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War having served for seven years.

During his service in the Air Force he met the love of his life, Samai, in Thailand. They were united in marriage on June 25, 1974 having celebrated 48 years of marriage. After his discharge the couple moved back to Oneida where they raised their family on the family dairy farm. He was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oneida.

Charlie served for 24 years on the Hobart Fire Department where he mentored many young volunteers. He was also active in the Oneida Robert Cornelius Post 7784 of the VFW and Seymour Krause-Kraft-Mueller Post 106 of the American Legion.

Charlie enjoyed fishing, and cherished the time spent with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by wife, Samai Thies; children: Poun (Jolleen) Thies, David (Erica Plesser) Thies, and Diana (Ken) Cornelius; grandchildren: Taylor, Diana, Ethen, Maleigh, Keyana, and KJ; sister, Shirley Willette; nieces and nephews: Tadd, Chad, and Misti.

In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Thies; brother-in-law, Harry Willette.

Visitation will take place on Monday, July 25, 2022 at Zion Lutheran Church, 453 Rose-Hill Dr, Hobart, WI 54155 from 9:00 am until the funeral service at 11:00 am
with Pastor Chris Burg officiating. Military honors will take place following the service. A private family interment will take place at the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery at a later date.
