William Zahn

William “Bill” R. Zahn, 76, of Seymour, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at Bellin Hospital due to complications following heart surgery.



He was born June 6, 1942 in Manitowoc, WI son of the late William Edward and Mercedes (Boucher) Zahn. Bill graduated from Lincoln High School in 1960. He enlisted in the US Army in March, 1964 was honorably discharged March, 1966 and was a member of the Seymour American Legion Post #106. He was united in marriage to Joyce Zabel September 28, 1968 recently celebrating 50 years of marriage.



Bill found his way to Seymour working for his uncle, Jack Zahn, at Automotive Supply. He later obtained his insurance licenses and transitioned into insurance full-time. Bill worked in insurance for 42 years, having owned the Bill Zahn Agency which he later named Community Insurance Center. He and Joyce enjoyed working together for many years, retiring in January, 2010 and he was proud to see his son, Mike, buy his agency and continue on in the insurance industry, and often referred to himself as a “recovering agent.” Bill enjoyed being a part of the Seymour community and was involved in many groups through the years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his bike around town, making maple syrup, telling stories about his life growing up and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.



He was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Seymour where he served as a lector for more than 40 years.



He is survived by his wife, Joyce; children: Michael (Shanna) Zahn, Suamico; Catherine (Rob) Rydzewski, Seymour; and Jennifer (special friend Jon Gordon) Zahn, Minneapolis; grandchildren: William, John, and Noah Rydzewski, Quinten Zahn, Eli and Lucia Shimanski; sister, Judy (Phil) Kinzel, Manitowoc; sister in-law Susan Zabel, Oshkosh; brother in-law Ted (Carol) Zabel, DePere; Joel (Joy) Zabel, Johnson City, TN as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.



Bill was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws Arnold and Eleanor Zabel.



Friends may call at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour on Friday, December 21, 2018, from 4-7 pm with a parish prayer service at 7 pm. Visitation will continue Saturday, December 22, 2018, at St. John Catholic Church, Seymour from 9:30 am until the funeral mass at 11:00 am with Father Brian Belongia and Deacon Rich Matuszak officiating with military honors. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.



In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Bill’s memory to be contributed towards his favorite causes.
