Vera Mae Holzer

Vera Holzer (Sherwood) age 101, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026. She was born September 10th, 1924 the daughter of Jay and Sadie Sherwood and lived most of her life in Seymour.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and in her younger years taught Sunday school and sang in the choir over 75 years. She loved singing gospel songs, and sang at many weddings and funerals. She sang with her sisters (Opal and June) at many functions.

She loved planting flowers in her small garden, but her family was her life and her children always came first. Vera had a second family (as she called them) that she took care of over 50 years. They were all special to her, and she always loved it when they grew up and came to visit or called. She attended many of their weddings and graduations.

She loved to bake and always shared her goodies with the tenants in her apartment. She always baked favorite foods that the children liked. She always said she was so blessed for the life the Lord gave her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John; son, James; daughters: Joane and Carol; brothers: Roy, Frank, and Glen; sisters: Opal, June, and Hazel.

Vera is survived by her 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-great-grandson, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation for Vera will take place at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour on Thursday, March 26, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A private family graveside service will take place at Seymour City Cemetery at a later date.
