Travis Schara

March 10, 1988 — October 9, 2018

Travis Schara, 30, lifeguard and certified personal trainer, of Neenah passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at his home. He was born on March 10, 1988, son of Scott and Cindy (Cournoyer) Schara.

He is survived by his parents, Scott and Cindy; sisters: Jessica and Grace; nephews, Caleb and Riley and future brother-in-law, Adam Vander Heiden; cat, Toni and turtle, Sif.

Travis was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Dennis and Naomi (Moh) Cournoyer, paternal grandparents, Russell and Katherine (Arnold) Schara, as well as great-grandparents Larry and Tess Arnold.

Travis was born in Honolulu, HI on March 10, 1988, “a native Hawaiian”, which he loved to tell others. He graduated from UW Green Bay in December 2009 earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science. He attended Freedom Elementary until being homeschooled through high school. He loved sports and actively played basketball during those years. Travis had many certifications related to his college degree.

Travis always liked sports and gave it his all. He enjoyed the time with his fitness clients and friends doing such things as the Tough Mudder, half marathons, and triathlons. The precious time he had with his friends always put a smile on his face. Playing ultimate frisbee, soccer, weightlifting, disc golfing, basketball, and watching the Packer games were some of his favorites. His love of music took him to many concerts. He was also a friend to many who will miss him dearly.

Travis was the most special BIG brother to his sisters. His littlest sister, Grace, said “He loved being hilarious.” A favorite she remembers is him finding jokes on his phone (What is brown and sticky? A stick.) and watching cool cat videos. She will miss FaceTiming with him. He was a wonderful brother who was always there to protect and put a smile on their faces; except when his sister, Jess, stole his car one evening! Jess also remembers the days when he’d tell her not to walk next to him as he didn’t want people thinking they were boyfriend and girlfriend.

He was a fun loving uncle who cherished the time with his nephews. Favorites included a recent trip to the pet store, feeding his pet turtle, being tossed swimming in the pond, and boating.

Travis was our only son and we are at a loss as to how to explain what he meant to us. We will always remember his cooking skills, adding seasoning touches to holiday meals, his wit, and his deep thinking ability. Most importantly, we will miss telling him we love him and his great BIG hugs and back-cracking shakes.

We are most thankful for the grace our Lord, and Savior, Jesus Christ is extending in this time of need, along with the love and care from family and friends. We are trusting in Psalm 23.

Visitation will take place at Community Bible Church, 402 W. Forest St. Black Creek on Thursday, October 18th from 4-7 pm and again at 9:30-11:30 am before a Celebration Ceremony of Travis’ Life on Friday, October 19, 2018.
