Robert James Abel, age 71, died May 26, 2007, at home peacefully in his sleep with his family by his side. Bob was born July15, 1935 in the Town of Lessor, Shawano County, the son of Ervin and Mary Beth (Powers) Abel. He served as a Corporal in the Marines from 1954-1955. On April 30, 1957, he married Joan Ward. This April, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He was an electrician with the IBEW Local 577 until he retired in 1997. Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Tipler, where he was known as "Walleye Bob." He enjoyed remembering trips with his family and friends to Alaska, Canada and Jamaica.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; their children: Charles (Nancy) Abel, New London; Joel (Cheryl) Abel, Waupaca; Amy (Byron) Wickesberg, Black Creek; Gina (Jeffrey) Phillips, Freedom; Mary (Kevin) Cropp, Medina; Thomas (Denice) Abel, West Allis; Karen (Richard) Bergman, Neenah; Diana (Joseph) Miller, Neenah; Daniel Abel, Black Creek; Michael (Gwen) Abel, New London; Steven Abel, New London; Benjamin Abel, Black Creek; Scott (Christine) Abel, DePere; his grandchildren: Heather (Dean) Brinkman, Heidi (Matthew) Anderson, Paul (Sarah) Abel; Amanda (Ryan) Lubinski, Alyssa Abel; Jeff, Kenny and Robby Wickesberg; Jessica and Isaac Phillips; Kevin Jr. (Special Friend, Crystal), Nathan, Jared and Kari Jo Cropp; Amanda, Eric and Morgan Abel; Nicole, Michelle and Monica Miller; Brianna Severson; Brandon; Marijana and Scott Jr. Abel; his great-grandchildren: Tristan, Tiernan and Connor Brinkman; Gage and Taylor Abel; and Carmen Lubinski; his brothers: Richard (Jackie) Abel, Zachow; Jerome (Ann) Abel, Bonduel; James Abel, Seymour; and close friends Gladys and Arnold Beyer and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Mary Beth Abel; sister, Betty Herb; and great-grandson, Austin Abel.

Friends may call at St. Edward's Catholic Church, Mackville, from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2007, with Deacon Jeff Hofacker officiating. Burial will be held at Elm Lawn Cemetery with full military rites. Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour, is assisting the family with arrangements.
