Nick Mattson, age 73, of Kimberly, WI passed away peacefully and gracefully on June 2, 2024 with loving family by his side.
Nick was born on May 21, 1951 to the late Kenneth and Verdaine (Wyland) Mattson in Merrill, WI. While much of Nick's life was spent managing dairy plants in the Fox Valley area, his true calling led him to a career as a Lay Minister with Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour, WI. Nick was an incredibly kind and caring man of remarkable faith who touched many lives through his family, friends, and career. He was always there to lend an ear and to make a person feel special. His trademark smirk would warm your heart.
For nearly 52 years, Nick was married to his high school sweetheart, Deb. Together they raised three children, took on the joys and challenges of a hobby beef farm, enjoyed many motorcycle trips, were members of the church choir, caught a lot of fish, and treasured their time spent with family on annual cabin vacations. Nick and Deb approached life as a team and their love and dedication to each other was something to be admired.
Nick is survived by his wife Deb (Stiver) Mattson; his children, Clay (Becky) Mattson, Angie Lom (fiance Adam Rosek), and Becky Mattson (special friend Brady Goeks); his precious grandchildren, Raina Lom, Alex Lom, and Nathan Mattson; his siblings, Todd (Cynthia) Mattson, Brad Mattson (Theresa Grund), and Gail Abegglen; along with father-in-law Bernard Stiver, and in-laws Jo (Mark) Bronsteatter, Mary (Carl) Moscherosch, Mike (Amy) Stiver, and Dan (Martina) Stiver; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Gabrielle Marie Mattson, mother-in-law Carol Stiver, and brother-in-law Dennis Abegglen.
Thank you to the staff at ThedaCare Hospice for their loving care in the final moments of Nick's life. To the staff at Club Gabriel, we will be forever grateful for the five years of care, kindness and joy you provided to Nick.
