Nancy R. Werley, 76, of Seymour, passed away after a short but courageous battle with cancer on October 11, 2025. Nancy was born on February 23, 1949, in Evanston, Illinois, to John and Marion Hofeldt.
Nancy attended the University of Illinois Chicago, where she earned a bachelor's degree in theater. During her academic years, she won numerous awards in speech competitions throughout the state of Illinois, showcasing her exceptional talent and confidence in the performing arts.
Nancy was known for her unwavering and unconditional love for her children and grandchildren. While her children were growing up, Nancy could often be found volunteering at their school in whatever capacity was needed or cheering them on at their various activities. Throughout their lives, her children always knew their mother would be there with a listening ear and steadfast support.
Nancy enjoyed everything creative, whether it was dancing, acting, writing, drawing, or sewing. She wrote two novels and completed countless drawings and original needlepoints, each reflecting her creativity.
It was one of Nancy's greatest joys to become a grandmother and to extend the same unwavering love to her grandchildren.
Nancy is survived by her three children, John Werley, Josh Werley, and Sarah (Greg) Gerbers; and by her six grandchildren, Liam, Ella, Lily, Natalie, Tyler, and Ella. She is further survived by her two brothers, Mark (Betsey) Hofeldt and Bill Hofeldt.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marion Hofeldt.
There will be a small, private celebration of Nancy's life held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Nancy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
