Mary passed away on Sunday morning with a smile on her face, surrounded by family. She believed in a life of service, where you "do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Mary Ann Lucille (Stingle) Nettekoven was born on February 9, 1936 at home on the farm in Black Creek, the daughter of Erwin and Helen (Baumann) Stingle. Erwin had to take the horse and sleigh to pick up the doctor from Highway 47 for her birth. She married Ronald Nettekoven on June 9, 1956. She attended Sunny View, a one room school, and graduated from Seymour High School in 1954.
Mary was employed for nine years at First National Bank, now Chase Bank, in Appleton. She started as a collector and became the head bookkeeper. After raising a family she spent 14 years as a tax preparer for H & R Block. Mary also worked part time at Center Valley Credit Union as a teller.
In her youth she was very active in 4-H and FHA and served as president of both organizations. She made dresses for the 4-H dress reviews and went to State Fair and Madison with her creations. She enjoyed sewing, quilting for cancer, baking pies, decorating cakes and reading. Mary was a member of Country Apples HCE, serving as officer many years. At Highlands Elementary in Appleton she helped in the library, leading new arrivals for kindergarten and served as co-chairman of the spring art show. She was the Cub Scout treasurer for Highlands School.
Mary had a strong faith with a lifetime of service to God and others. Mary was a member of St. Pius X parish in Appleton, where she taught religious education and worked at the parish picnic. At St. Edward's parish in Mackville she served on the parish council and also worked at the parish tractor pull and at parish lunches.
