Lillian Platten

April 26, 1925 — February 6, 2017

Lillian Clara (Steward) Platten, 91, of Menasha, formerly of Seymour and Black Creek, passed away peacefully, Monday, February 6, 2017 at Prairie Homes in Menasha. She was born April 26, 1925, daughter of the late Frank and Rosella (Van Dyke) Ebben.
She graduated in 1943 from St. Mary's High School in Menasha, having attended St. Mary's schools her entire life. Following graduation she worked for Kimberly-Clark until the end of the war.
On October 8, 1947 she was united in marriage to Calvin Steward, Sr.
As she was raising the children, she worked as a waitress, in retail, and as a school custodian. She also worked many summers at the Outagamie County Fair.
Lillian was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Menasha. She was previously a member of St. John Catholic Church in Seymour and belonged to the Altar Society. She taught religious education at St. John and St. Sebastian for many years. Lillian had also been a "pink lady" at Appleton Medical Center and volunteered with VNA Hospice. Lillian had also belonged to the Outagamie Homemakers Club while she lived in Seymour.
Lillian later married Roman Platten on December 11, 1982. He preceded her in death on October 8, 1985.
She enjoyed playing cards and belonged to many different card playing groups to play sheepshead and cribbage. Lillian also loved to dance, especially the jitterbug and polkas. She was known for putting on holiday dinners and baking many pies, cakes and cookies through the years. Lillian was a friend to many and rarely turned down an invitation to get together. More than anything else she enjoyed the many family gatherings and attending her grandchildren's events.
She is survived by her children: Shari (Mick) Wolf, Antigo; Cal Jr. (Diane) Steward, Appleton; Tim (Kathie) Steward, Appleton; Michael Steward; Milwaukee; seven grandchildren: Tammi (Tim) Miller, Amy (Mel) Pollom, Kip (Amber) Rueden, Charity Recla, Adam (Janet) Steward, Josh Steward, and Christine (Ben) Hansen; five step-grandchildren: Janey, Cara, Eric, Nikki, and Dan; 11 great-grandchildren: Paige, Danny, Kyla, Stephanie, Ashley, Iris, Noelle, Lydia, Samuel, Josiah, and Dorothy; 16 step-great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren: Tamaya, Joshua, Haven, and Maliyah. Further survived by a brother, Dave (Bev) Ebben; many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Dave) Spiegelberg, Dorothy Steward, and Marcella Gagnow.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roman Platten; great-grandson, Taylor Nelson; siblings: Floyd (Dorothy) Ebben, Vivian (Bob) McNutt, Ruth (Norbert) Kropidlowski, and Dan Ebben; step-great-granddaughter, Hailey.
Friends may call at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 528 Second St., Menasha on Friday, February 10, 2017 from 9:30 am until the funeral mass at 11:30 am with Fr. Paul Paider officiating. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.muehlboettcher.com
