Karen VerVoort

Karen (Hurst) VerVoort, age 73, of Seymour, WI unexpectedly passed away in her sleep on December 01, 2025. She was born to the late Marvin and Pauline (Lemke) Hurst on January 27, 1952. Karen spent her formative years living next door to her paternal grandparents (Herbert and Marian (Denny) Hurst) and playing with her beloved cousins and Beaulieu Hill Bandit buddies down in the Happy Hollow.

After graduating from Kaukauna High School in 1970, Karen went on to study Library Science at UW-Oshkosh. She married the love of her life, Gary (Squirrel) VerVoort, in 1976, and they raised a family together in Seymour. Through the years, Karen earned an AS degree at FVTC, served as an administrative assistant for the Oneida Nation, was employed as a sales agent at Pine Castle Furniture, and worked as an Oneida One Stop Retail Associate, but the work she loved best was helping out on the VerVoort Family Farm.

Karen was a proud Oneida Tribal Member who enjoyed attending pow wows and cultural events. She also loved to read books, watch scary movies, and hunt for 'treasures' at thrift shops, rummage sales, farmer's markets, craft sales, the bottle dump, auctions and antique stores. Karen was adventurous and inquisitive; she took great pleasure in traveling and exploring and observing nature. Above all, Karen held her family dear; she spent a great deal of time and energy making them laugh, smile, and feel especially loved.

Karen is survived by her beloved husband Gary, son Tyler (fiancé Lera Haidarova), son Sean, and rescue cats Black and Softail. She is further survived by her dear Godfather Marty Lemke and loving siblings: Susan Hurst, Linda (Roy Hartjes) Hurst, Steven Hurst, Lori Bevers, Bill (Kelli) Hurst, and Lisa (Craig Baker) Hurst. Karen cherished and is also survived by her in-laws: Rosemary (Dale) Van Elsen, Kay (Bill) Roskom, and Bill (Marcia Lowry) VerVoort along with numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Karen is preceded in death by her father Marvin Hurst, mother Pauline (Lemke) Hurst, sister Cheryl Hurst, father-in-law Peter VerVoort, mother-in-law Ruth (Meulemens) VerVoort, brother-in-law, Fran VerVoort, brother-in-law, Dan VerVoort, sister-in-law, Darlene Price, and nephew, Joshua Verbeten.

Per Karen's wishes there will be no formal funeral services held.
