June Begay

June 25, 1929 — July 13, 2023

June M. Begay, 94, Oneida, WI, died peacefully in her sleep on July 13th, 2023. She will be missed greatly by her loving children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. June has joined her beloved husband, James C. Begay, who she was married to for 65 years. The reunion will be celebrated by all who loved them.

June was born in Milwaukee, WI during the depression era. A few years after her birth, her father moved his family to Oneida and built a home on June's grandmother's land. Her parents moved a few more times until finally settling on County H near Ranch Road. After June graduated from East High School, Green Bay in 1948, she attended Haskell Institute in Kansas. She earned her secretarial certification and found a job in Fort Defiance, AZ. There is where she met the man who would become her husband, James Begay. They had 6 children and since James was in the military, it was not unusual for the young family to relocate. They lived in Oklahoma, and various locations in California. After James retired from the military in 1965, the Begay family moved to Northern California. During her lifetime she worked for various companies as a clerical support personnel. She best remembered her position at the U.S. Postal Service from which she retired after 25 years. Upon retirement, June and her husband left the state of California to move to Oneida, WI. There they had a home built, which they enjoyed throughout their retirement years. June loved to receive visits from her family and friends and enjoyed playing card games and laugh. She loved to sew clothing, quilts and craft dolls, work on puzzles, and take trips with her husband. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and she enjoyed the visits from her visiting teachers.

June is survived by her children Candace (John) Walton-Litchfield Park, AZ; Susan Wilson-Oneida, WI; Carla (Todd) Di Salvo-San Jose, CA; Joseph Begay-Anchorage, AK; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her two eldest sons, James R. Begay Jr. and Dennis S. Begay; her daughter-in-law Donna Conrad (Joseph Begay) and her father Raymond Ira Cornelius, her mother Lydia Cornelius; her brother Ira Cornelius (Buddy); her sister Donna Lake and brother-in-law, Jim Lake.

The family would like to thank the Oneida Health Clinic and staff for their support in her medical care. She felt much compassion and care in the staff's attention to her needs. The family would also like to thank the Oneida Police Department who came to assist when needed and Unity Hospice for their help in providing her comfort and compassion.
