Joyce Hopfensperger

November 19, 1939 — March 23, 2024

Joyce Hopfensperger joined her mom and dad in heaven on March 23, 2024 leaving a loving family and many beautiful memories of her time with all of us.

Joyce was born in Appleton, Wisconsin in 1939 to Ervin and Marcella Rasmussen. Most of her youth was spent in their house on Calumet Street in Appleton, from where she also attended and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Menasha. After school, she met James Hopfensperger and the two were married on August 8, 1959. After starting in a trailer home parked on the lot next door to Jim's mom, they moved first to north Appleton and then to Black Creek, where they bought a house and 10 acres just south of town.

Here they raised three sons: Randy, Rick, and Rob. Joyce and Jim saw their sons marry and add to the family 7 grandkids and 15 great-grandchildren.

After the boys started in school, Joyce found work first working at Grant's Department Store in Appleton, later working at Seymour Community Schools as the secretary to the Assistant District Administrator. After that, she worked almost 25 years at Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC) in Appleton as a secretary and GED test administrator.

Joyce and Jim spent many years camping during summers in central Wisconsin, first with the boys and later by themselves with the rest of the family coming and going as life permitted. They later had a travel trailer on a seasonal lot in Eagle River for a number of years, and after 2006 they purchased a mobile home on a seasonal lot in the Maple View Campground just south of Conover. They spent many weeks and weekends at their "cottage" up north.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Jim; sons: Randy (Bea), Rick (Danielle), and Rob (Tavia) Hopfensperger. She further survived by her 7 grandchildren: Adam, Hannah, and Jared (Alyssa) Hopfensperger, Ryan (Christine) Hopfensperger and Kara (Terry) Baumgartner, and Eric (Alyssa) and Alex (Madi) Hopfensperger; step-grandchildren Peter (Brenda),David (Jessica) Brunner, Crissy (Phill) Lisowski; she is also survived by her 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Joyce will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Black Creek on Tuesday April 2, 2024 at 9:30 AM. Extended family and our many friends are invited to a Celebration of Life to be held at Wally's Still in Dale, WI (owned by Rick and Danielle) on April 2, 2024 starting around 2 o'clock.
