John Stephani

March 16, 1943 — January 30, 2019

John James “Jack” Stephani passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife and caregiver Mary and brother-in-law Jack at his side on January 30th, 2019. Jack fought a long courageous battle with PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy). He was born on March 16th, 1943 in Appleton to Leo and Ethel (Hooyman) Stephani.

He was raised on the family farm in Black Creek and graduated from Seymour High School. On October 21st, 1967 Jack married Mary Nelson at St. Mary Catholic church in Black Creek. He was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Mackville and the Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed time spent with family, golfing, bowling, time at the lake and wintering in Florida. He was always ready for a good game of sheepshead and cribbage. He was an avid fan of the Packers, Brewers, and Badgers.

Jack is survived by his wife and soul mate Mary; sisters: Ilamae Gaynor, West Bend; Carol Wagner, Appleton; Judy Slania, Ankeny, IA; Lynne (Rodney) Gabrielson, Sun Prairie; Janice Mary (Colin) Turner, Burnsville, MN; and brother Gary (Susan) Stephani, Lake Sherwood, CA; sisters-in-law: Gerry Hofacker, Appleton and Barbara (Michael) Assad, Grayslake IL; and brother-in-law Jack (Judy) Nelson, Oshkosh; and Godchildren: Laurie Zwerg, Kim Sokol, and Allison Hodgson. Also survived by many relatives, including nieces and nephews, and friends who were all very special to Jack.

Preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Ethel Stephani; sister, Marilyn, and his twin sister Janice Ann at birth; brothers-in-law: Jack Gaynor, Duane Wagner, Andy Slania, and Henry Hofacker; step-mother, Viola Stephani; father and mother-in-law, Maynard and Gertrude Nelson; niece, Kristine Hofacker; and nephew David Hofacker.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 4th, 2019 at St. Edward Catholic Church, N2926 WI-47, Appleton, WI with Father Walter Stumpf officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects at church on Sunday, February 3rd, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a prayer service following, and on Monday from 9:00 am until the time of Mass at 11:00 am. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established in his name.
