Jeffrey Braun

Jeffrey L. Braun passed away Sunday, October 18, 2020. He died peacefully with family by his side after a lengthy illness. He was born June 2, 1957 a son of the late James and Janice (Baehler) Braun. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour, WI.

Over the years, Jeff held various positions as an educator, coach and administrator for the Lake Mills, Tomahawk, Dodgeland and Pulaski school districts.

Jeff was a 1975 graduate of Seymour High School, graduated from UW Madison, attending on an athletic scholarship for track and field, and attained his MS in Education from Cardinal Stritch University.

As a Badger, Jeff won a combined eight Big Ten Championships in the shot put and discus and four-time NCAA qualifier. In 1979, he attained All-American status when he set Big Ten indoor and outdoor meet records and UW indoor and outdoor school records in the shot. Jeff was the US National Indoor Champion in the shot put in 1982. Jeff also represented the USA in a dual meet against England, was selected to the Pan American Games team, and qualified for the 1980 Olympic Trials. After completing his eligibility, Jeff used his throwing knowledge and passion to become an assistant coach for the UW Track teams and coached three school record holders, three Big Ten champions, and one All-American in the throws.

In recognition of his accomplishments competing for and coaching at the school, Jeff was named to the 2020 Induction Class to the University of Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame.

One of his biggest joys was coaching and bringing out the best in all his athletes.

Jeff is survived by a brother, Jonathan (Jodi) Braun; sister, Julie Braun; and brother Joseph (Barbara) Braun; ex-wife and special friend; Karen McCredie Braun; step-children: Heath Kelly, Jacob (Jaime) Kelly, and Sarah Grossman; step-grandchildren: Samantha and McKenna Grossman, Josephine, Jasmine and Jacob Kelly. Jeff (aka, Uncle Buck) is also survived by nieces and nephews: Kelly (Jim) Johnson, Andrew (fiancée’ Brittney Bohlen) Braun, Benjamin (Kimberly) Braun, Jacklyn (Adam) Hill, and Kathlyn (Brigham) Bramschreiber; great-nieces and great-nephews: Jaelyn and Easton Hill, Frederick Johnson, and Blake Bramschreiber.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Janice (Baehler) Braun.

A visitation for Jeff will take place at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour, on Saturday, October 24, 2020 from 9 am until the funeral service at 11 am with Pastor Ty Stoneburner officiating.
