James Effa

May 10, 1936 — August 9, 2022

James N. Effa, 86, Seymour, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 9, 2022. He was born on May 10, 1936, to the late Joseph and Genevieve (Spanner) Effa. Jim married the love of his life, Joan Ebben, on June 16, 1958. There was no love stronger than theirs.

He was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Seymour. Jim worked at Oudenhoven Construction in Kaukauna for his entire career until his retirement as a foreman at 62-years-old. Jim was an avid Beagler and enjoyed attending field competitions, and he was proud to be on the board of directors for the Fox River Beagle Club. Jim and Joan belonged to the club for 25 years and they enjoyed making friends and taking home a few trophies.

Jim's kids were his world and their worlds will never be the same without him; our love for our dad is beyond words! This man had a love for life! The word "can't" was not in his vocabulary. He was the hardest working man around, and he was cutting his lawn just last week! Jim was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener.

He is survived by wife, Joan Effa; eight children: LuAnn (Denny) Hauser, Jim (Laurie) Effa, Sandy (Ken) Gonnering, Kim (Jeff) Lamers, Kelly (Ken) Wyngaard, Scott (Sarah) Effa, Jesse (Kelly) Effa, and Kristy (Tim) Lamers; his daughter-in-law, Amy (Jim) Marks; 26 grandchildren: Tiffany, James, Rachel, Ashley, Nick, Kortney, Katie, Jacob, Cory, Isaac, Hunter, Sarah, Nick, Ben, Jordan, Parker, Cole, Carson, Madelyn, Lydia, Weston, Tanner, Cooper, Peter, Hailey, and Dexter; 11 great-grandchildren: Avery, Adelyn, Jace, Camryn, Kendal, Abram, Ariana, Robin, Colton, Grant, Emma, and 2 more on the way; sisters-in-law: Joyce Unker, Pat (Jim) Albright, Carmen (Bruce) Janssen, and Ellen Ebben; brothers-in-law: Gene (Margie) Ebben, Greg (Sal) Ebben, and Robert Brogan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by one son, Dean Effa; one grandson, Jason DeGroot; three sisters: Janice Brogan, Jean (Chuck) Corbin, and infant, Geraldine; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Arthur and Agnes (Joosten) Ebben, two brothers-in-law: Arthur Ebben and Tom Unker; one sister-in-law, Char (Don) Reader; and nephews, Andy and Allen Ebben.

In accordance with Jim's wishes, a private Funeral Mass will take place at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Seymour. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.

Jim's family will be sending memorial donations to the Fox River Beagle Club.

The family extends a special thanks to the staff of Fresenius Kidney Care Kaukauna for their special care given.
