James E. Bunnell, age 92, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at his home in Green Bay. He was born June 21, 1932, Bovina, Outagamie County to Homer and Goldie (Bedor) Bunnell.
When Jim was in high school, he played trombone, football and boxed. He graduated from Shiocton High School. After high school he continued to box even until a few years after he was married. He has a trophy from the Golden Gloves and one for the best defensive fighter.
On October 14, 1950, he married Shirley Zuleger at the First Congregational Church in Shiocton.
He joined the National Guard in 1953 as a medic with the 127th Infantry. He was honorably discharged in 1961.
He worked for Marathon in Menasha and then transferred to Chambersburg, PA where the company started up a new plant. They moved to Green Bay in 1965 where he worked for Green Bay Packaging. They joined the Pilgrim Congregational Church on January 22, 1967, where he served as an usher, greeter and helped with the woods clean-up. Starting in 1980 he moved around for Green Bay Packaging putting up 6 color printing presses and training crews.
He loved bowling, hunting, fishing and golfing.
Upon retirement in 1996, he moved back to Green Bay. He belonged to the L.O.O.M. 801 Green Bay. He earned his fellowship degree and worked 8 years on the state board.
He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Green Bay.
He is survived by his children: LaVon (Fred) Deshler, Marilyn (James) Dunkel, Joan (Rick) Gerbers, Carol Kreischer, Mark (Angie) Bunnell, Jere (Ro) Bunnell, and Chrisy Bunnell; 15 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. God-children, Cheryl and Charlotte; brother, Lloyd Bunnell; and many other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; son, Lavern Bunnell; brothers and sisters: Elsie (Andy) Allen, Veryl (Artis) Bunnell, Robert (Rebecca) Bunnell, Betty (George) Reiland, and Theresa Bunnell; granddaughter, Melissa; great-grandson, Brandon; Godsons: Robert and Michael Bunnell; and many other relatives.
Visitation for Jim will take place at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour, on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 from 9:00 am until the funeral service at 11:00 am with Pastor Michael Hennig officiating. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
