James "Moose" R. Baumgart, 79 of Seymour passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 18, 2026. He was born on October 4, 1946 son of the late Ronald and Elaine (Eliason) Baumgart.
He was united in marriage to Connie Gaustad on May 25, 1986 having celebrated nearly 39 years together. Connie preceded him in death on May 17, 2025.
Jim was drafted into the US Marine Corps in 1966 and served until 1972. He supported his family as a sheet metal worker for 37 years. Jim was also a member of the Oneida Volunteer Fire Department for 40 years.
In his earlier years, his favorite past times were snowmobiling and golfing.
Jim had great pride in his gardens and loved to share the produce with friends and neighbors. Another one of his pride and joys was the cabin in the northwoods that he owned with his cousin Lee for many years. He also loved to pass the time doing jigsaw puzzles, reading, watching westerns, and shooting the breeze with friends and family in " Moose's Shop".
Jim cherished the time spent with his grandson, Logan. He was eager to teach him the ways of the world and watch him become a young man.
He is survived by his daughter, Jody (Derek) Lund; daughter, Amanda Verrier and grandson, Logan; son, Andrew Gaustad; sister, Sandy DuChateau; nieces: Sue (Bob) Brandt and Jill Hirschmann; great-niece, Kristin; and great-nephew, Justin. Also survived by other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Jim was preceded in death by his son, Jeffery Baumgart; an infant son; son-in-law, Jason Verrier; brother-in-law, Marlin DuChateau; and other relatives.
A memorial visitation for Jim will take place at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour on Wednesday, January 28th, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A private burial will be held at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
