Gerald Roland Mastey
June 5, 1940 - June 17, 2026
Gerald Mastey, 86, quietly passed away with family at his side on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. The third son of Florian and Agnes (Jankowski) Mastey, he was raised in Nichols, Wisconsin as one of fourteen children. Gerald graduated from Seymour High School and was a member of the Wisconsin National Guard. He was employed at Nichols Cooperative for more than 40 years and helped many farmers and community members.
He took Sophie Sobiesczyk as his bride. They were married for nearly 63 years setting an incredible example of love and dedication.
While working at Nichols Cooperative Gerald and Sophie also ran a small dairy farm, raised three children instilling ethics of work and strong faith.
Gerald will be remembered as a kind and patient man, quiet with a quick wit and a well timed one liner, a gentle man with love for his family. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and times he spent with his friends. Gerald and Sophie also enjoyed traveling with the "Farmers on the Bum" group. Gerald's Sundays were never complete without enjoying a little polka music.
Survivors include his wife: Sophie, children: Julie (Bart) Koenig, Michelle Witthuhn (fiancé Paul Renard), Darin (Kristie) Mastey. Grandchildren: Gunnar (Trisha), Logan (Abby), Tanner, and Rose Witthuhn and Megan (Luke) LaBounty, Kate Koenig and Ben Koenig. Gerald was great grandfather to Granger, Landon and Evelyn.
He is further survived by brothers Dan (Marge) Mastey, Steve (Lynn) Mastey, Stanley Mastey, and sisters Marilyn (John) Furhman, Sharon Davis, Patrica Murphy, Barbara Watson and Betty Mastey. He is further survived by sister-in-law Shirley Mastey, Gloria (Jack) Betley, Ellen (Gary) Raymakers, Tony (Jacky) Sobiesczyk and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Florian and Agnes Mastey, siblings Jim, Vern, Chet, Ken and John. In-laws Alvin and Eleanor Sobiesczyk, a son-in-law Keith Witthuhn and many in laws.
With the assistance of Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, a visitation for Gerald will take place on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at St Lawrence Catholic Church, Navarino, from 9:00 AM until the funeral mass at 11:00 AM with Fr. David Greskowiak officiating.
