David Luft

May 19, 1940 — June 8, 2025

David "Dave" Luft of Freedom, WI was born to George and Lydia (Pfaffenroth) Luft in Oshkosh, WI on May 19, 1940. He married Melva Davidson on September 24, 1960, and together they raised a loving family rooted in faith, service, and community. Dave passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025, surrounded by love. His family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care that brought him comfort in his final moments.

Dave began his working life on a farm in Fond du Lac, which led to a long career selling farm equipment. Through his work and travels, he built many strong relationships and deeply cherished the friendships made along the way. After retiring at age 68, he returned to Freedom to enjoy time with his growing family.

He thrived when surrounded by people and the energy of laughter and connection-whether at a supper club dinner, a church gathering, or a kitchen full of grandkids. He especially loved time at the Lakewood cottage he built by hand, where he hosted the annual "Stew for the Crew." Dave found purpose in serving others and always enjoyed fellowship. He was part of the church's unofficial mowing crew-a group of volunteers who cared for the grounds and shared plenty of laughs along the way. After Melva's passing in 2018, he found joy and companionship with Gail Glovka, who, along with her family, became a deeply important part of his life.

Known as the "picture guy," Dave was always eager to capture memories in photos or videos. He often reminded loved ones to "make sure there are people in your pictures," and cherished the photos sent to his beloved "picture machine," which was always by his side. He took great joy in the treasured photo books created over the years.

Dave's life was grounded in faith and community. He cherished time with friends and family. In hard times, he often reminded others, "God will never give you anything you can't handle." In his final weeks, he said with peace, "I'm ready when the good Lord wants me."

He is preceded in death by his parents: George and Lydia Luft; his wife, Melva; and his daughter, Penny Murphy.

He is survived by his siblings: Karlton (Barb) Luft, Karen Radloff; children: Lorie (Kevin) Evers, and Mark (Cindy) Luft; son-in-law Ken Murphy; and his beloved companion, Gail Glovka. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jessica (Jack Sharon) Evers, Amanda (Jon-Claude Blouin) Evers, Kyle (Stacy) Evers, Melissa Bowers, Tara (Brad) VanCaster, McKayla Young, Travis (Sami) Luft, Brittany Cunningham, and Brandon Cunningham; and twelve great-grandchildren.
