Carole Liggins

Jul 30, 1945 — Sep 7, 2026

Carole Ann Liggins, age 81, of Oneida, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2026. She was born on July 30, 1945, to Carl Danforth and Alfreda (Smith) Green. After graduating high school, Carole left Wisconsin and ventured to California where she lived for nearly 20 years before returning home to Oneida in 1982.

She worked for the U.S. Postal Service for more than 30 years, serving as Postmaster in Oneida for 16 of those years. She also dedicated many years of service to the Oneida Nation, contributing her time and leadership to the Trust Enrollment Committee, the Oneida Nation School Board, the Oneida Nation Commission on Aging, and the Oneida Appeals Commission as Chief Judicial Officer. She also served as Assistant to the OBC Vice-Chair. After retiring, Carole devoted herself to full-time caregiving for her mom and stepdad, Allen Green.

Carole filled her free time with the people and activities she loved most. She enjoyed church events, playing Rummikub with Becky, visiting the casino with Winnie, and her favorite pastime--shopping for clothes. She was an avid bowler for many years. More recently, she began sharing road-trip adventures with her friends Kathy Hughes and Matthew Skenandore, traveling the country from east to west and north to south. Carole was fiercely independent and at the age of 75, she decided it was time to start a new birthday tradition. For five straight years, her daughters, grandchildren, and many friends joined her in relaxing on a tube floating down the Wolf River.

Carole is survived by her children, Chrissy Liggins and Lisa (Thurston Denny) Liggins; grandchildren Yasmine, Bailey, and Thurston Allen; her aunt Becky Nicholas; and great-nieces and great-nephews Wesley, Marena, CJ, AJ and Grace. She was lovingly known as "Grandma 2" to many others who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her dad, mom, and Allen; sister Marena Pamanet; nieces Carla and Amy; and nephews Scott and Walter.

The family expresses their thanks to the community for its support, to the many doctors and nurses for their care and attention, and a special thanks to Doreen Reed for all of her help.
