Walter Bisterfeldt, 94, of Shawano passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Evergreen Nursing Home in Shawano. He was born September 28, 1924, the son of David and Elizabeth (Freebort) Bisterfeldt in Belle Fourche, South Dakota.
Walter taught in the one-room Oakland Schoolhouse, then continued teaching elementary education for the Shiocton School District and Saint Rose Catholic School in Clintonville. He also worked road construction during the summer for many years. Walter was a faithful member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Leeman.
Walter served his country by serving in the Army from 1943 to 1946 in the 63rd Medical Supply Unit, China-Burma Theater.
Walter was united in marriage to Lorraine Leeman on June 10, 1950. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine and his children: Lee (Nancy) Bisterfeldt, Shawano; Dean (Sara) Bisterfeldt, Bozeman, MT; his grandchildren: Ben (Ashley) Bisterfeldt, Tony (Jen) Bisterfeldt, Andrea Bisterfeldt, Amber (Chad) Laude, Monica (Adam) Davis, Amanda Steeves. He is further survived by sisters-in-law: Beatrice Leeman and Gen Leeman; 15 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Jeanette Steeves.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bill Bisterfeldt; nephews: Bob Stutzman and Charles Strauch; sister, Elizabeth & Harold Strauch; brother, Leo Balino; mother and father-in-law, Edna & Malcolm Leeman; sisters and brothers-in-law: Dorothy & Glen Ethington, Nelda & Bill Collins, Royal & Margaret Leeman, Kenneth Leeman, Keith Leeman, and Henry & Marty Leeman.
Visitation for Walter will be Saturday, January 12, 2019, from 9-11 am with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 am. Services will take place at Trinity United Church of Christ, W6712 County Rd F, Shiocton (Leeman) with Pastor Moira Finley, officiating.
